Police Report Two Arrested for Engaging a Prostitute

Portland Police arrested two men during an undercover prostitution operation in the Parkside neighborhood on Friday, June 21. The detail was conducted in response to increased complaints from residents of the neighborhood. Two local men were charged with engaging a prostitute after they approached an undercover police officer at the corner of Congress and Weymouth Street and offered her money in exchange for sex.

The Parkside Neighborhood Association said that ongoing prostitution has harmed their neighborhood. Women who live in the neighborhood report being followed and propositioned by men seeking sex. The problem has resulted in a negative impact on the quality of life and increased fear throughout this densely populated and diverse community.

The two men arrested are Michael Kusnirak, 55 years old of Scarborough and Orlando Perez AKA Orlando Deperez, 44 years old of Portland. Perez is additionally charged with possession of cocaine, trafficking in prison contraband, and failure to comply with the sex offender registry. A records check revealed that Perez has changed his name, and that under the name Orlando Deperez, he is a sexually violent predator with convictions for gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact. He has a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender. Perez is not in compliance, having not registered with the Portland Police Department. He last registered with Lewiston Police in August 2012.
