Bank Robbery Arrest

On February 19, 2013, at approximately 1406 hours, Portland Police officers responded to the Key Bank at 1 Monument Square for a bank robbery. A teller called police after a male entered the bank, handed a teller a note demanding money, then fled eastbound on Congress Street with $1,000.00. A description of the male was broadcast to patrol officers responding to the area.

Approximately nine minutes after the robbery, Officer Dan Rose located 49-year-old Joseph Blais of Portland at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Chestnut Street. Blais was wearing the clothes described by the Key Bank teller and found in possession of $1,000.00 wrapped in a bank band along with other evidence linking him to the bank robbery. No weapon was used or located during this incident.
Blais was arrested and transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he was charged with Class B Robbery.
