Aggravated Assault Investigation


At approximately 7:30pm on November 8, 2012, Portland Police officers responded to 96 Front Street for the report of a stabbing. Officers arrived to find 37-year-old James Hurd of Windham lying in the entry way of 96 Front Street bleeding from a puncture wound to his back. Hurd was stabilized at the scene by MEDCU personnel and transported to the Maine Medical Center for treatment. Hurdís injury was determined to be a non-life-threatening stab wound.

The suspect in the stabbing has been identified as 21-year-old Justin Renna of Portland. Witnesses to the stabbing told officers Renna fled the area on foot after assaulting Hurd. A search of the area for Renna was conducted utilizing a Portland Police K-9 team. Renna was not located and is still at large.

The Portland Police are attempting to locate Renna in regards to this investigation. Renna is also wanted for two outstanding arrest warrants charging Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention and Violating Conditions of Release for Domestic Violence Assault.

Renna is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
