Local Youth Graduate from Rigorous Navy Seals Program
Police Department partners with Maine Leadership Institute and Phoenix Foundation to offer SEALS-Fit program

PORTLAND, Maine – This Friday, fifteen area youth will graduate from SEALS-FIT, a collaboration between the Portland Police Department, the Maine Leadership Institute (MLI) and the Phoenix Foundation. SEALS-FIT, a youth leadership and anti-bullying program is an intensive seven week program led by retired Navy Seal Hans Ruediger with mentors from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Participants were challenged with demanding physical training and interpersonal skills development. Ranging in age from fourteen to eighteen, participants reflected the full diversity of the community and were often seen on the fitness trail at the Back Cove learning the spirit of team leadership -- embodying the SEALS motto, “the only easy day was yesterday.”

"I've seen dramatic growth in the leadership skills of this class as well as a resolution to meet head on some of the big issues facing them in school, such as cyber-bullying. These young adults are on a growth trajectory,” stated Walter Corey, CEO of Maine Leadership Institute.
