New Officers to go to the Police Academy

Sean Hurley was born in Laconia, NH and moved to Cape Elizabeth
at the age of 6 and was educated in the Cape Elizabeth school system
through 8th grade. Sean went to Cheverus High School and played
football those four years and was Captain of the team his senior year.
After completion of high school, Sean went on to
Saint Anslem’s where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
At Saint Anslem’s, Sean played rugby and eventually became the
team’s president . Sean did an internship with the New Hampshire State Police
and worked as a part-time officer for the Hampton, NH Police Dept. He will now be coming back to Maine to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and work with the Portland Police Department.
Matthew Rider grew up and was educated in Swanzey, NH before moving to Keene. After high school, he moved to the Southern Maine area and went to the University of Southern Maine where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminology in 2005. In 2006, Matthew joined the United States Army and became a Specialist and in 2007, Matt's unit was deployed for 14 months to Iraq. During his military service, he was awarded many medals and decorations. In 2010 Matt started working for a mental health agency in Keene, New Hampshire and left there just recently to move to Portland. We are appreciative of his service while in the military and pleased that he has chosen to become a Portland Police officer.
Christopher Roy was raised in Maine, and graduated from the University of Maine at Fort Kent with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies; he also acquired an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. He was honored by the University of Maine at Fort Kent with the Outstanding Senior Award in 2011, and the Outstanding Future Alumni and Criminal Justice Awards in 2010. Chris worked for two summers with the Maine Warden Service as a Deputy Game Warden and more recently as a patrol deputy for the Knox County Sherriff’s Office. We are very pleased to welcome Christopher to the Portland Police Department.
Matthew Morrison was raised in New York, and graduated from Clinton Community College with an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice studies. Matthew has been a member of the Vermont Air National Guard since 2010, graduating with honors from basic training, and with distinction from the Air Force Technical School . He was recently awarded two Vermont Meritorious Service Ribbons for noteworthy service and devotion to duty. Along with these accomplishments, Matthew has also worked as a first responder and volunteer firefighter. We are very pleased to welcome Matthew to Maine and to the Portland Police Department family.
