A 26-year veteran of the PPD, Karl joined the Portland Police Department in 1983.
He graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and is very close to receiving his Masters degree in School Guidance. He currently works in Community Policing where he is known as bike officer extraordinaire! He has been doing bicycle patrol for five years and has logged thousands of miles working on the bike 12 months a year! Some of the facts about Karl and his career at the Portland Police Department are:

Officer Geib taught DARE in the Portland Public Schools for 15 years and instructed for the program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Officer Geib has taken a proactive sense of ownership of the diverse Midtown section of the City and routinely problem-solves issues that arise within this sector. Karl’s sense of community and extensive experience with community policing will make him an incredible asset for Parkside and the West End.

As an active person, Karl has run several marathons, ultras, and the Mount Washington Road Race and is a certified police fitness instructor.

He received an award for Public Service in 1991 and the Thomas J. Landers, Law Enforcement Professional of the Year Award for 1989.

He has received many letters of appreciation from schools, individuals in the community, and organizations.
