Chuck came to the Portland Police Department in August of 1994 and was promoted to the position of sergeant in July of 2005. Most recently Chuck has been working as a supervisor in our Directed Patrol unit and before that was acting supervisor at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Some of the facts about Sgt Libby and his career at the Portland Police Department are:
Sgt Libby has been very active with both the PAL and Explorer program this summer, overseeing the officers and making sure that our first explorer academy went smoothly.
He has acted as assistant team leader to the Special Reaction Team over the last year and half.
Chuck received the prestigious Portland Police Michael Wallace award for training- an award given to police personnel chosen by his or her peers for outstanding commitment to the training and mentoring of new police officers.
He attended Bates College and received his Bachelors degree in Political Science.
Sgt Libby was named Officer of the Year in 2004.
Chuck also works as a firearms instructor both here and at the Maine police academy. He has received numerous commendations and citations during his time with the Department and multiple letters from members of the public thanking him for his good work.
